Atlanta-Fulton County Library System Capital Improvement Program Phase I – Atlanta, Georgia

Russell, along with joint venture partner Heery International, is serving as construction program manager for the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System’s Library Capital Improvement Program Phase I. Pictured above is the East Roswell Library, one of eight new libraries that are included in phase one of a $167M capital program, the total capital program is $270M. Each library in this capital program was a unique design based heavily on input from the local community. The East Roswell Library is located on a 2.9-acre, steeply sloping and densely wooded site. The land occupies the corner of a large city park, but fronts busy commercial retail developments. The area of the library is 17,000 square feet with all the public space on a single floor with utility spaces in a basement level. There are 70 paved parking spaces and a drive-through book return. The library site development includes several bike paths that connect to the citywide path system.

Inside, the library includes 50,000 volumes of books and media with separate collections for adults, teens, and children. The library provides many small meeting places as requested by the community, including one large conference room for up to 30 people, four group study rooms for 4 – 8 people and three tutoring rooms for two people in each. The library has state-of-the-art technology providing public access to 40 computer stations, 2 large format touch screen video presentation boards, compact disk dispenser (like a RedBox), several selfcheckout stations and color copier/printers with a patron payment system.
